        Anil Gulecha has announced the availability of the first beta release of Nexenta Core Platform (NCP) 2.0, a free and open source distribution combining the OpenSolaris kernel with Ubuntu userland: "This is to announce availability of Nexenta Core 2.0 beta - an Ubuntu/OpenSolaris native environment (unstable 'Hardy' branch). The packages are relatively stable, and we've thus moved NCP to beta, and aim for a stable release early next year. Release highlights: OpenSolaris build 104+ with critical patches; over 6000 packages in the repository, and autobuilder; based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 'Hardy Heron' repository; includes latest APT, GCC, Binutils, Coreutils, Perl, Python, Ruby, Qt libraries, GTK+ libraries; SMF support added for server applications like Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Exim; includes apt-clone which brings ZFS power to apt-get."
